Worth knowing

Why the dealership finance desk isn’t your only option.

Dealer finance is sold at the moment you’re most emotionally committed and least inclined to compare. That’s not an accident. A few things worth understanding before you sign anything on the showroom floor:

  • The advertised rate isn’t the cost. Establishment fees, monthly account fees and add-ons all sit inside the total. Two loans at the same rate can cost meaningfully different amounts.
  • Balloon payments make repayments look smaller. They’re a lump sum deferred to the end, not a discount. Sometimes they’re the right call — but you should choose one deliberately, not have one presented as the default.
  • Approval first changes the conversation. Walk in with finance sorted and you’re a cash buyer negotiating on price, rather than a finance customer negotiating on monthly repayments.
  • Every application marks your credit file. Shopping around by applying repeatedly does real damage. A broker checks policy first and lodges once.

How it works

Three steps. Often same-day.

1

Tell us what you’re buying

The vehicle, roughly what you earn, and what you already owe. Two minutes online or one phone call.

2

We shop the panel

We match you against the lenders whose policy fits your situation and the vehicle, then show you the shortlist and why.

3

You buy the car

Approval, settlement, funds to the seller. Many asset finance applications are decisioned the same day.

Common questions

Car finance, answered.

Is a broker actually cheaper than dealer finance?

Often, though not always — and we’d rather say that plainly than pretend otherwise. What a broker reliably gives you is comparison: several lenders assessed against your circumstances instead of the one or two a dealership is aligned with. Sometimes the dealer’s offer wins, particularly on manufacturer-subsidised deals on new cars. If that’s the case we’ll tell you.

Should I take a balloon payment?

It depends entirely on what you’ll do at the end of the term. A balloon lowers your monthly repayment by deferring part of the debt to a lump sum at the end — you still owe it, and you pay interest on it the whole way through. It can make good sense if you genuinely intend to trade the vehicle in or refinance at that point, and for business use there can be tax reasons. It works out badly for people who take one purely to afford a more expensive car.

How old a car can I finance?

Most lenders look at the vehicle’s age at the end of the loan term, not the start — which surprises people. A twelve-year-old car on a seven-year term means a nineteen-year-old asset at the finish, and few lenders will secure against that. Older vehicles are still financeable, just by a narrower set of lenders and often at a higher rate.

Can I get finance before I’ve chosen a car?

Yes, and it’s usually the better order. Pre-approval tells you your budget and lets you negotiate as a cash buyer. It’s typically valid for a set period and subject to the vehicle meeting the lender’s criteria, so the final tick happens once you’ve picked something.

Does applying hurt my credit score?

Talking to us doesn’t. We assess your position against lender policy before anything is formally lodged, so no enquiry is recorded while we work out where you fit. This matters — applying to multiple lenders directly and being declined leaves a trail that makes each subsequent application harder.

I’m self-employed. Do I need two years of tax returns?

Not necessarily. Full-doc lending generally wants two years of returns, but low doc options exist that assess differently — BAS statements, bank statements or an accountant’s declaration, depending on the lender. If your returns don’t reflect what the business actually earns, say so early and we’ll point you at the right lenders.
