Why a broker holds so much about you

The Finance Team is a trading name of Online Showroom Pty Ltd, which holds Australian Credit Licence 551493. We are a broker. Our job is to understand your situation, compare what is available across our lender panel, and put an application together on your behalf.

None of that works without personal information. A lender will not assess an application on a summary; it wants the underlying detail, and we cannot recommend anything sensible without it either. So the honest position is that we ask for a lot, and the Privacy Statement is where we account for it.

What we collect and why

The kinds of information involved in arranging finance are broadly the ones you would expect:

• Who you are and how to reach you — name, date of birth, contact details, and identification documents.
• Your financial position — income, employment, assets, liabilities, expenses, and supporting documents such as payslips or statements.
• Information about what you are trying to buy or refinance, where that is relevant to the application.
• Credit-related information, which is dealt with in more detail in our Credit Reporting Statement.

We collect it for a purpose: to work out what you can reasonably afford, to assess whether a loan is not unsuitable for you, to prepare and submit your application, and to keep you informed while it is on foot. We also use it to meet the obligations that come with holding a credit licence.

Who it may be disclosed to

Arranging finance is not something we do alone, so your information moves. In the ordinary course of putting an application together it may be disclosed to the lender or lenders you are applying to, to aggregators and service providers who support our business, to insurers, valuers or other parties where the transaction requires it, and to anyone you have authorised to act for you, such as your accountant, conveyancer or solicitor. It may also be disclosed where the law requires or permits it.

The Privacy Statement sets out the categories properly. If you want to know who specifically will see your file for your application, ask us before you sign anything and we will tell you.

How it is held

Your information is held in the systems we use to run the business, and we take steps to protect it from misuse, loss, and unauthorised access or disclosure. We keep it while we have a reason to, and deal with it appropriately once we do not. The Privacy Statement is the document that governs this, and it is the one to read rather than this summary.

Your rights

You can ask us for access to the personal information we hold about you, and you can ask us to correct it if it is wrong, out of date or incomplete. In practice, correction matters more than people expect — an application assessed on a stale figure is an application assessed wrongly, and it is worth telling us early.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain. Raise it with us first so we have a chance to put it right. If we do not resolve it, you can take it further, and the Privacy Statement explains where that goes and what it costs you, which is nothing.
